Custom 4.0mm Banana Plug Test Lead Wire for Medical, Laboratory and Electrical Equipment
This 4.0mm banana plug test lead provides a configurable cable connection for electrical test instruments, laboratory equipment, power supplies, compatible stimulation systems and selected healthcare-device applications. The standard configuration uses 4.0mm banana plugs at both ends, while conductor material, cable length, insulation, color and connector combination can be developed according to the target equipment.
Heymed Medical supports both standard banana-to-banana assemblies and project-specific configurations such as banana-to-clip, banana-to-electrode or customized adapter cables. For OEM and ODM projects, the complete cable should be designed around the required current, voltage, connector fit, conductor size and operating environment rather than selected only by connector diameter.

4.0mm Banana Plug Interface for Flexible Equipment Connections
The 4.0mm banana plug is widely used as a detachable electrical connection in test instruments, laboratory hardware, power equipment and other systems using a matching 4.0mm socket. Its compact cylindrical contact structure allows cables to be connected and removed without permanently wiring the equipment interface.
Even when two devices both use a nominal 4.0mm interface, connector compatibility should still be checked against the actual socket geometry, insertion depth and mechanical construction. For custom equipment projects, a mating connector drawing or physical sample can be reviewed before cable production.
Connector housing shape, cable exit direction and overmolding can also be adapted where the finished equipment requires a more compact or application-specific connection structure.

Electrical Rating Depends on the Complete Cable Construction
The current and voltage capability of a banana plug cable cannot be determined from the connector alone. Conductor cross-section, conductor material, cable length, insulation thickness, connector contact structure, temperature rise and operating environment all affect the final electrical rating.
The standard product page provides reference values of up to 15A and up to 1000V, but these values are subject to the final cable design and validation. For OEM projects, the required operating current and voltage should therefore be defined before conductor size and insulation construction are finalized.
Where the cable will be incorporated into medical, laboratory or diagnostic equipment, the completed cable assembly should be evaluated according to the electrical, mechanical and compliance requirements of the finished device.

Key Engineering Details to Confirm Before Sampling
Connector configuration: banana-to-banana, banana-to-clip, banana-to-electrode or other project-specific combinations.
Electrical requirement: target voltage, operating current and expected load conditions should be defined before cable construction is selected.
Conductor: copper or tinned-copper conductor and cross-sectional area selected according to the required electrical performance.
Insulation: PVC or project-specific jacket materials can be evaluated according to flexibility, voltage and operating-environment requirements.
Cable dimensions: standard and customized lengths can be developed according to the equipment layout and required working distance.
Identification: red, black, yellow, blue, green and custom colors, labels and packaging can be configured for OEM projects.
More Than a Standard Male-to-Male Test Lead
For equipment manufacturers, the cable does not need to remain a fixed male-to-male banana lead. The opposite end can be developed around the actual device, accessory or electrode connection required by the project.
Heymed Medical can integrate banana plugs with clips, terminals, electrodes, custom connectors or other cable branches, allowing the assembly to function as part of a larger test, diagnostic or equipment interconnection system.
Projects requiring a more specialized interface can also be developed through our Medical Connectors & Adapters range.
From Equipment Requirements to OEM Cable Production
Custom banana plug cable development can begin from a connector drawing, equipment interface, electrical specification, existing cable sample or target application. Our engineering team can review the connector combination, conductor size, cable length, insulation and overmold structure before preparing a prototype.
During sample verification, connector fit, pin-to-pin continuity, cable dimensions and applicable electrical performance can be checked against the approved project specification. Additional testing can be defined where the final equipment requires specific current, voltage, temperature-rise or mechanical-cycle requirements.
For projects requiring a complete cable or adapter rather than a standard test lead, explore our Custom Medical Cable Assemblies for additional connector, overmolding and equipment-integration options.
